Are you a local business owner looking at local internet marketing, and more specifically, location based marketing as a way to grow your business?

Let me put marketing into simple terms first: The act of buying or selling in a market.' Now, as much as marketing is valuable, it certainly has some challenges and issues pertaining to reaching the intended consumer these days.

The old traditional ways marketing is practiced where the message is sent out to a mass of people, hoping that it reaches the few that will be interested in what is being sold, simply does not work anymore. Thank goodness that marketing has started being done by analyzing demographics due to the improvements in technology today.

A few examples of this are radio ads to a certain audience of say retirees or a newspaper ad to vegan enthusiasts. But, where the hard part comes in is that the location constraint is there where it makes it difficult to truly reach consumers that turn into actual sales for your business.

Fortunately for you as a local business owner, Location-based marketing has come alive and saves the 90 percent of wasted ad impressions that take place. For example, smartphones allow a business owner to gather device-location information, and modern search engines, such as Google, allow consumers to find what they need based solely on what is in their geographic area. When you have better targeting, this gives you a bigger demand and better sales conversions. Let us see how to make it work for you:

Number 1: Make sure you target your marketing campaigns to be as specific as they can be. You can do this using the tools that the search engines like Google give you. You can also do the same thing with the new mobile search engines which are becoming more and more popular, and niche down to the actual city and zip code and even street name that you do business in.

When you do it this way, you are marketing your business to the largest number of consumers who are likely to be in range of your storefront or whatever it is you have.

2. Make sure you are using your actual location to your best advantage: Offer coupons or special deals to consumers at a very local level. Maybe you could offer a weekend special deal for all the people within a mile of your business.

Number 3: Offer very specific directions to your location so you never lose a potential customer because they do not want to take the time to find you. You could get creative by showing people how they can find you by train, bus, walking, from their work, etc. Use geo-location to do this.

Number 4: Make your geo-location marketing campaign unique and stand out. Location based marketing is fantastic because you are able to give consumers an unlimited amount of incentives like for however frequently they visit your business, they are awarded free meals or a free haircut, etc.
